Hi Striker Set Up Instructions

IMPORTANT NOTES BEFORE STARTING

  • Surface must be FLAT
  • Check all bolts are tightly fastened
  • Carefully raise the unit into its upright position. (Assistance may be required)
  • Stake the unit down securely. If it is not possible to stake down, then weight the unit down with 40kg sandbags on each side
  • Cover the front with a grass mat to protect the hammer from being damaged.

Step 1 – Tools required

  • Rubber Hammer
  • Spanner
  • Spanner Socket
  • Base
  • 4 Bolts and Screws
  • Metal Strength Gauge

Step 2 – Calibrating the Striker

The default setting to get the supervisor ready should be on 0 turns.

  • Easy (5-9 turns) – Good for kids 7 – 10 years of age
  • Medium (10-15 turns) – Good for young teens or smaller sized adults
  • Hard (15.5 -17 Turns) ideal is 15.5 turn – Good for Adults. 16 Turns is very difficult

Note: One full turn is 360 degrees from the start position as marked on the striker. After 15 turns, every half turn makes a huge difference.

The Striker will always be default at 0 Turns. The supervisor must adjust accordingly.

The higher it goes, the harder it makes the striker to hit. The lower it goes, the easier it is.

To go higher, turn the lever anti- clockwise. Lower is clockwise.

Step 3 – Barricade Set Up

  • 5 Bunting
  • 5 Orange Bollards
  • Grass mat
  • Minimum space required is 5m x 6m

Block off a “striking zone” with plenty of room for the participant to safely swing the mallet with no danger of hitting a spectator or passer-by.

Note: occasionally the mallet will bounce off the side of the rubber pad, so make sure the spectators are kept clear of this area.

HOW TO APPROACH THE SET UP PROCEDURE FOR PRIVATE HOUSE PARTY

When you leave the customers place, you want them to feel safe that their kids can play inside the bouncy castle without it flying away or collapsing. You want them to feel like you are a professional who knows exactly what to do. You need to show confidence.

  1. Arrive at event location on time or early
  2. Make contact with customer and introduce yourself as “Your Name from Perth Bouncy Castle Hire” DON”T FORGET TO SMILE 🙂
  3. Ask where is the equipment going to be set up and ask them to show you
  4. When walking to the set up location, you should be observing the surroundings and access. Things to look out for that may cause inconvenience are; tight access, soft ground, vehicles and furniture in the way, trees, power lines, hot water units in the way, air con units in the way, dog poo, rocky ground, enough space for the equipment. If problems arise look for alternatives.
  5. After set up location has been assessed for safety (eg. sharp objects, slope), ask the customer which way they want the entrance of the equipment to face.
  6. At this stage it is VERY IMPORTANT you get the customer to confirm where they want the equipment set up. You DO NOT WANT TO BE MOVING THE EQUIPMENT AFTER IT IS ALREADY SET UP.
  7. If set up is on grass, ask the customer if there is any underground piping. If there is, ask the customer to show you where. Then tell the customer you will come and get them when you are about to use the metal stakes. It is important you do this step because we do not take responsibility for any damaged pipes.
  8. Ask for the location of the power point
  9. If any payments are required, this is the best time to ask for it.
  10. Tell the customer you will start setting up, and come get them before you start putting the metal stakes in.
  11. Set up the bouncy castle. Things to look out for are: All zips are closed, any tubes to be tied off, blower tube to be fastened (check for tightness by pulling).
  12. Attach sandbags or if metal stakes are going to be used show the customer exactly where you will be putting in the metal stakes. We want them to feel like they made the decision on where the stakes go in.
  13. Start anchoring it down, and using ropes to tie down if its windy.
  14. Clean the equipment and vacuum it. MAKE SURE ITS CLEAN!
  15. Put the mats in front and cones around the blower.
  16. Go through the Set up checklist and complete in full detail. Write down any comments such as tight fit, bad parking etc.
  17. Contact the customer, and show them how to turn the blower on and off, what can go wrong and what to reference if something goes wrong.
  18. Explain to customer its all been set up properly and get them to sign the Safety and Hire Agreement.
  19. Tell them what time you will come back for pick up.
  20. Pick up any mess you made, and close any gates behind you before leaving.
  21. DON’T FORGET TO SMILE 🙂

HOW TO APPROACH THE PACK DOWN PROCEDURE FOR PRIVATE HOUSE PARTIES

  1. Arrive on time
  2. Talk to the customer and ask if everything went well. If you did a good set up, this should always be a YES!
  3. Tell the customer that you will start packing it away.
  4. If kids are still on the equipment, tell the kids “alright kids, i’ll be packing it away in 1 Minute, then everyone has to come off”. This will help you get parents attention and also give a pre warning to difficult kids who may not want to come off the equipment.
  5. While your waiting, go get your cleaning equipment and your trolley.
  6. Once the kids are off, vacuum and wipe down the equipment.
  7. Then turn it all off, unzip and take off any straps etc to let the air out and fold it so that the material will be as flat as possible. This will make it easier for you when you start rolling the inflatable.
  8. The key to to a good roll is to have it as flat as possible. Always remember the inflatable needs to be able to fit back into your van, (to fit in a van is roughly just taller than one of those orange trolleys) so keep that in mind when rolling. General rule of thumb is, if you want it tall and skinny, then it will have less folds, Short and Fat, then it will be more folds.
  9. Once its folded length ways, fold it in half to help get all the air out, while you take all the other things into your vehicle.
  10. Once all things are in the vehicle you can start rolling this inflatable.
  11. Once its all done, don’t forget to thank the customer and say good bye!

Delivery Problems and How To Solve It

HOW TO HANDLE CERTAIN SITUATIONS – Your main goal is to make the customer feel you have things under control.

No matter what situation you are in, you must keep a cool head. Do not panic or complain to the customer. Keep calm, and try to find a solution. Read this section as most scenarios have been listed here. If the issue can not be resolved, please contact Kheng.

DO NOT CALL OR SMS management during shifts because the inflatable is dirty/wet or the set up location is hard to get to or further than expected.

Get the job done first and take pictures for proof where you can and report to management AFTER the shift so we can investigate the situation.

Make sure you are at the correct address! Sometimes there may be several events going on at the same location, so make sure you are talking to the right customer! DO NOT SET UP UNTIL YOU ARE SURE!

Cleanliness of Inflatable – You can always expect a little bit sand, grass inside.

Inflatable is Dirty Upon Set Up

  1. Take Pictures for proof, video is even better
  2. Get the vacuum, towels and spray and start cleaning
  3. Report to management AFTER the shift

Inflatable is Wet Upon Set Up

  1. Take Pictures for proof, video is even better
  2. Get the vacuum, towels and spray and start cleaning (keep one towel to remove the excess water and the other towel to polish. Do not use both towels to remove the water, otherwise both towels will end up completely drenched)
  3. Report to management AFTER the shift

Inflatable is Wet or Dirty after Pack Down

  1. If the wet weather is continuous or its too dark to see, do the best you can to remove what you able to.
  2. Report to management AFTER the shift. IT IS IMPORTANT you do this so if the unit is going out the next day, the other driver can be notified so they can be prepared upon arrival of the set up.

Unit does not fit in set up location (do not climb up trees or use ladders to saw off any branches. It is the customers responsibility)

  1. If its a tight fit, you can put towels, bouncy castle bags, or any sort of protective material against the inflatable and the wall/fence/roof eave.
  2. Check if you can face the bouncy castle another way to make it fit?
  3. If the equipment does not fit at all, look around to see if there are other options. Examples are: front of the house, back of the house, side of the house,
  4. If you end up setting up at a location where the exit or entrance is near a wall/rock or dangerous object. You MUST advise the customer that an accident could happen if you set up that way. Note that down on the hire agreement form and let the customer sign next to it.

Unit does not fit through access way

Check if there are other access points? If no other options are available tell the customer if its possible they can assist you in getting the inflatable through.

OPTION 1: bring the inflatable close to the gate/door and lay it on the floor and jump to try to squish it as flat as you can (you may need to kneed it a little bit to get it flat enough). Sometimes you may need to loosen the straps so u can flatten it even more. Then stand it up on the trolley and check if its thin enough.

2a. If it looks like its really close to fitting, try a combination of lowering it, standing it up, getting someone to push the sides in. DO NOT DAMAGE customer property.

OPTION 2: Re roll the inflatable so it is tall and thin.

OPTION 3: Open the inflatable so its only one strip. Then have 2 or people to pull that through the gate/door.

OPTION 4: If you have tried all of these options, and it still can’t fit, advise the customer you are unable to get it through the access, therefore you can not set up. DO NOT SAY THIS unless you have really tried to get it through.

Set up location is far from parking

  1. Analyse the area and see if there is gates or vehicle access anywhere.
  2. If no options are available, and the customer seems friendly, you can try to ask for assistance from the customer or some other staff/people around. (DO NOT ASK if the customer seems very busy)
  3. Do a few stretches and get ready to get some exercise! Start working
  4. If you are going to take longer than the expected time, contact the next customer after finishing set up or pack down.

During Set up or Pack downs, customer wants to extend the hire

  1. If you are at the set up, have a look at the schedule and check if there is anywhere you can fit them in. After set up, YOU MUST contact management to advise of the change as we will need to talk to the customer.
  2. If you are already at the pack down, advise the customer its too late, as you are on a schedule and you won’t be able to get back there.

  2. Check if you have the correct address. Look at things like correct suburb, street vs way vs road vs lane etc..
  3. Check on the schedule. Is there any other numbers on there? check in the notes section and sometimes there is a few numbers in the phone number section. TRY CALLING THEM ALL
  4. KEEP CALLING
  5. Notify Kheng on 0406 161 959 or Helen on 0404 341 584.

Customer Asks You To Move The Castle to Another Location After You Have Already Set Up

We need to avoid this at all costs. Its VERY IMPORTANT that you get the customer to agree to the set up position before you start setting up. But we know sometimes it does happen.

  1. If you are going to be late to the next delivery, let them know that unfortunately you won’t have enough time to move it now or you will be late to the next delivery.
  2. If you have time, then just DO IT!
  3. If you feel that if you move the castle, theres a chance that you may not be set up in time for their event, make sure you advise them of this.

Generator Problems

Pull String has snapped

  1. Check if you have time to drive back to the warehouse to get one? If not, Call management immediately on 0421 464 018. If you can’t get a response, contact the other drivers and ask if they are close by?
  2. Call a local hire company and hire a generator (minimum 3kva for each inflatable). Try Coates hire, kennards hire. Google “Generator Hire” or “generator hire perth”. If you can pay for this first, we can re-imburse you, if not tell management who the company is to arrange payment.

Generator Doesn’t Start

  1. Check the fuel
  2. Check the start button (usually red button or lever) has been switched on
  3. Check fuel has been switched on
  4. Check safety switch is turned on
  5. Start on CHOKE, If the blower is starting on cold engine. If the engine has been warmed up, put the lever to RUN mode (rabbit)
  6. Call Management
  7. If the generator started, but after you turned on the blower, it turned off, flick the safety switch back up and start the engine again.
  8. If it really doesn’t start, check if you have time to drive back to the warehouse to get one? If not, Call management immediately on 0421 464 018. If you can’t get a response, contact the other drivers and ask if they are free to drop it off for you.
  9. Call a local hire company and hire a generator (minimum 3kva for each inflatable). Try Coates hire, kennards hire. Google “Generator Hire” or “generator hire perth”. If you can pay for this first, we can re-imburse you, if not tell management who the company is to arrange payment.

The generator starts, but the blower keeps tripping it

  1. Have you got the correct generator for the blower? Any 2HP Blowers require our biggest generator.
  2. Turn the safety switch back on.
  3. Warm it up longer and try again
  4. If it trips again and the generator has been warmed up, turn the safety switch back on, keep the blower plugged in with the switch on and pull the string to start the engine.
  5. You can also try this: Turn the safety switch back on and turn the generator back on. Keep you finger on the safety switch to prevent it from flicking off switch and turn on the blower.

Obstacle Course Supervision

 How To Supervise Obstacle Courses

Your main goal is to make sure no one gets hurt. Do not favour anybody. All rules apply to everyone. All patrons need to feel you are in control. Use a stern voice, but do not ever be rude or man handle any children. Always be friendly and smiling. Do not have your hands in your pocket. You must always be alert and reactive. Do not sit down.

Tell all racers the safety rules:

  • no somersaults
  • no tackling or rough play
  • no climbing walls
  • sit down feet first before going down the slide (strictly no running or jumping off the top platform).
  • no pushing in
  • one at a time, down the slide
  • remove all footwear
  • remove all sharp or hard objects such as pens, buckles, spectacles
  • no food or drinks

Remember many young users can’t read signs so you will need to tell them what they are.

“Alright everyone. Make sure you don’t do flips inside the obstacle challenge, no pushing in, no jumping off the slide and always feet first down the slide”

How Many Racers Each Session

Maximum 2 at any one time.

Where Should The Supervisor Be Standing and How To Supervise?

The supervisor should be stationed 2m from the front of the entrance to control the line.

Ask the 2 racers to move towards the entrance, so there knees are basically touching the inflatable. Once they are in position, and its all clear, say Ready Set GO!

DO NOT LET THEM DO A RUN UP INTO THE ENTRANCE. This is dangerous and strictly prohibited.

Make sure everyone is off the obstacle course before letting the next 2 racers in.

You may need to go inside and tell the racers to keep moving as some people like to stay at the top of the slide.

You may also need to go inside to help the younger ones through if they find it difficult.

Pay careful attention to the weather conditions at all times, especially the wind.

How Long Should We Allow For Each Session?

Once they go through the obstacle, they must line up again. Tell the racers to exit to the left or right, whatever you decide on the day.

Create 2 lines for the racers to line up.

Watch the activity of racers constantly and remove those who disobey your instructions. Use a whistle or similar warning as a way to attract attention should any misbehaviour occur.

Dangers To Look Out For

  • Kids going down the slide face first. Give them warning.
  • Kids jumping off the slide (when they are at the top, tell them to stop by using hand signals, then tell them to sit down)
  • Kids pushing in or going 2 at at time down the one slide.
  • Kids doing flips

How To Deal With Difficult Patrons

Always use a stern voice, but do not be rude. Let them know you are in charge.

Always get there full attention. so they know you are talking to them.

Give children 1-3 warnings depending on the severity of the incident.

And Yes, you are allowed to ban people from playing on the obstacle if you feel they are being a danger to others and themselves. Your main goal is to make sure no one gets hurt.

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

What To Do If Someone Gets Hurt

Stop all activity.

Report to onsite medic, or whoever is in charge of the event.

Only resume once the patron has been cared for.

Report all incidents to management.

The supervisor of the inflatable must always be alert to weather conditions:-

What To Do If It Rains:

In wet weather, do not turn off the blower. Cover the blower and electricals using the bag provided at the back of the inflatable.

After the rain settles, you will need to wipe down the inflatable with towels before use to avoid the patrons slipping.

What To Do If It’s Windy:

If wind speeds exceed 30kmh or signs of willy winds approaching, evacuate the patrons from the inflatable immediately.

Turn off the power and allow it to deflate. To speed up the process, some inflatables have velcro zips, where you can unzip the sides to let the air out.

What To Do If The Inflatable Deflates:

Check the blower ventilation to make sure nothing is blocking the fan. Objects such as balloons, leaves, plastic bags or party strings can sometimes be the cause of this.

Check the blower tubes to make sure it hasn’t come undone.

Check the velcro zips to make sure it hasn’t come undone.

Check the blower switch and power point to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with.

Check the extension cords to make sure it hasn’t come apart or been damaged.

Check the mains power or generator to make sure it hasn’t tripped.

If all fails, please call the Ken on 0406 161 959 or one of the trained operators on site.

Snow Cone Machine Operators Guide

All Operators must ALWAYS be wearing gloves and have hair tied back or wearing a hat.

HOW TO SET UP

  1. Place the Snow Cone Machine in position with the door side to the operator. Connect all power to the machine.
  2. Place the esky filled with ice within easy reach. Place a drip bucket and point the rubber hose into there for melted ice. Place straws at the serving area. Place syrups within easy reach for serving. (do not allow customers to self serve the syrups)

MAKING SNOW CONES

  1. Lift out ice pusher to rest position, drop ice into shaver followed by pusher arm. To start the machine, keep the Black Button pressed down and Shaved ice will flow into the cabinet. Once you lift your finger off the Black Button, the machine will stop (this is a safety feature). Continue adding ice until you have an attractive mountain of snow, this is important as it attracts customers.

NOTE: Hollow ice is the most suitable ice to use – Do not use hard blocks of ice as this will jam the machine and damage the blades. – a 5kg bag of ice provides approximately 30 serves.

  1. Using a ladle or scoop, scoop out the shaved ice into a cup.
  2. Apply the flavoured syrup and serve to customer. Customers can help themselves with the straw.

PACKING UP

  1. Turn the machine off. Remove any excess ice and water into drip bucket.
  2. Empty drip bucket, put everything back into the esky.
  3. Wipe the table down and make sure you do not leave any rubbish behind.

WARNING  Do not at any time put hands, fingers, screwdrivers or any objects except ice into shaver head – THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY.

Jungle Obstacle Challenge Operators Guide

How To Supervise The Jungle Obstacle Challenge (2 supervisors recommended)

Your main goal is to make sure no one gets hurt. Do not favour anybody. All rules apply to everyone. All patrons need to feel you are in control. Use a stern voice, but do not ever be rude or man handle any children. Always be friendly and smiling. Do not have your hands in your pocket. You must always be alert and reactive. Do not sit down.

Tell all patrons the safety rules:

  • no somersaults
  • no tackling or rough play
  • no climbing walls
  • sit down feet first before going down the slide (strictly no running or jumping off the top platform).
  • no pushing in
  • one at a time, down the slide
  • no jumping on the front step
  • remove all footwear
  • remove all sharp or hard objects such as pens, buckles, spectacles
  • no food or drinks

Remember many young users can’t read signs so you will need to tell them what they are.

“Alright everyone. Make sure you don’t do flips inside the obstacle challenge, no pushing in, no jumping off the slide and always feet first down the slide”

How Many Patrons Can Play Each Session

Ensure the inflatable is not overloaded (6-12 patrons at any one time) Maximum 8 patrons at one time is recommended for large events.

Make sure everyone is off the inflatable before the next session starts. This helps to control the flow of the line during peak periods.

Ensure all patrons using the inflatable at any one time are of similar size. eg. Do not mix 12 year olds with toddlers.

Pay careful attention to patrons who are on the front step as they come out the slide or entering into the inflatable. Shield them from falling off the step.

Where Should The Supervisors Be Standing?

We recommend one stationed at the front, to control the line, and the other supervisor to be inside the inflatable at the bottom of the slide and stairs to ensure no patrons collide with each other and that only one person can go down the slide at any one time.

The supervisor at the front should always be standing close to the steps to ensure the kids do not fall off the step.

Pay careful attention to the weather conditions. Wind is the enemy of bouncy castles.

How Long Should We Allow For Each Session?

We recommend 3 minutes per session. As you get to the last minute, alert the patrons they have one more minute. Once you reach 3 minutes, all patrons must be off the inflatable before the next round of patrons enter.

TIP: Once you reach 10 seconds, tell the patrons they can go one more round before they have to come off.

How To Control Age and Size Of Patrons

For events with more than 30 attendees, create 2 lines for the patrons to line up. Divide the 2 lines into similar size groups.(Do not allow teenagers on with toddlers).

Watch the activity of patrons constantly and remove those who disobey your instructions. Use a whistle or similar warning as a way to attract attention should any misbehaviour occur.

Dangers To Look Out For and How to Resolve It

  • Kids running or moving really fast around the bouncy castle. (to resolve this, get their full attention and tell them to slow down)
  • Kids jumping on the front step (tell the kids to go jump inside and point)
  • Kids jumping off the slide (when they are at the top, tell them to stop by using hand signals, then tell them to sit down)
  • Kids pushing in or going 2 at at time down the slide (tell them “one at at time” “no pushing in”. If you have to, be the one to control whoever goes next down the slide)

How To Deal With Difficult Patrons

Always use a stern voice, but do not be rude. Let them know you are in charge.

Always get there full attention. so they know you are talking to them.

Give children 1-3 warnings depending on the severity of the incident.

And Yes, you are allowed to ban people from playing on the bouncy castle if you feel they are being a danger to others. Your main goal is to make sure no one gets hurt.

Example:

Scenario: A child is doing flips. You should give him his first warning “don’t do flips or you won’t be allowed back on the bouncy castle” If he does it again, get his full attention and say “You’re not allowed to do flips. If you do it one more time!, you won’t be allowed back on the bouncy castle”

Generator Problems and How To Fix It

Each patron must be wearing a protective helmet before play.

Once the game has finished, you will need to walk up to the players and help them take off the harness.

How Many Patrons Can Play Each Session

Maximum 2 at any one time.

Make sure everyone is off the inflatable before the next session starts. This helps to control the flow of the line during peak periods.

Where Should The Supervisor Be Standing?

We recommend the supervisor to be stationed right at the entrance of the inflatable to control the line.

The supervisor at the front should always be standing close to the steps to ensure the kids do not fall off the step and no one sneaks in.

Pay careful attention to the weather conditions. Wind is the enemy of bouncy castles.

How Long Should We Allow For Each Session?

Options are: 3 minute rounds or 3 Battles (each battle is considered finished when one player falls off the pedestal)

Create 2 lines for the patrons to line up. Divide the 2 lines into similar size groups.(Do not allow teenagers on with toddlers).

Watch the activity of patrons constantly and remove those who disobey your instructions. Use a whistle or similar warning as a way to attract attention should any misbehaviour occur.
